Skipping YouTube ads and sponsors

There is an app called NewPipe, it has no ads, can download videos and can play in the background. These are all things that default YouTube app does not do. YT ad skipping macros are very draining on the battery as they are cosnstantly checking whether YT app is open, along with continually clicking.

Here is the official NewPipe app: https://newpipe.net/

However, since NP is open source, there are forks created, one fork has Sponsorblock built in so you do not even have to listen to the subscription reminders or 'this was sponsored by' as it all gets skipped

Fork with Sponsorblock: https://github.com/polymorphicshade/NewPipe/releases

Another option is YouTube Vanced:

Also, if you just want simple ad blocking then using Kiwi Broswer + uBlock + view the YouTube mobile web page is yet another option.

Not sure why I didn't add that before - it's actually the solution I use daily.

I guess I'm just so used to not seeing ads in the first place.

excuse me,

i have downloaded NewPipe and i really like it... i have one issue though.... (or gained a discreet shortcut, depending on how you look at it :ROFLMAO: )

three times now i got a notification saying "an update is available, click to update" and when i click on it, it opens pornhub in my browser...?

is it just me or has anyone else had this "issue"? did i download it from the wrong source or something?

thanks, i can't remember where i downloaded it the first time, but i removed it and reinstalled from github, i will report back if it happens again..
it happened again, got a notification saying "new version available - click to update version: x" (i meant to remember the version it said but i still forgot)

this time i was paying a bit more attention and i saw that when i clicked the notification it opened github/polymorphicshade in the browser at first but before the page loaded it changed to some t-mobile website and loaded that instead.

is this really only happening to me?

I have no clue why that is happening. It should start the download once you clicked the notification. The latest version is 0.21.4. Barcode scanners have contained malware recently, maybe uninstall any of those and use Binary eye, it is an open source barcode scanner which is safe and I use it. Maybe create and issue on Github if the issue persists.

This sounds like an app introduced adware. Find an app that can locate apk files to look for any unknown apps. I also use an app called traced that I believe will catch the app doing it. Good luck and let me know if I can help further or what you find.

thanks you for the suggestion, i have installed traced but it did not find any real problems. (the "high risk event detected" notification in the video is just because i did not give the app location permission, should i have done that?)

i did finally make a video of the issue yesterday, so i have video evidence now; https://streamable.com/s1mlks (i don't think it will help much, but who knows)

today i will check on github/google if there are any other people with this issue.

Just use the YouTube ReVanced application to watch videos without ads...

I think GOogle stopped Vanced completely on numerous devices (including mine) it doesn't work.

In the era of YouTube ReVanced people should never use the Vanced because its getting old and ReVanced comes with all new latest features and functionality. And the most impotent thing is ReVanced is the official replacement of Vanced where you will get so many advanced features that you never used in the YouTube Vanced.

I've been enjoying NewPipe as well, but there's this rather peculiar 'update' notification I've encountered three times now. 😂 Instead of an actual app update, it takes me to a, well, unexpected destination - Pornhub!
