I'd like to use this on my Chromebook, but I seem to be unable to properly grant location access. I gives me an error related to marshmallow

I'm sorry but I don't ever test on Chromebooks or even own one, so I'm not really sure what the issue may be.

What exactly does the error message say?

The macrodroid permissions are activated correctly, but for it to work even with the permissions granted it is necessary that the gps is always activated, the warning that you are seeing in the macrodroid helper is only because it is directed to a lower version of Android to make macrodroid can make certain functions work.

So, if setting location to be allowed all the time doesn't keep gps activated, what does?
You have to look in the settings, I'm afraid I can't help you because I've never used that operating system, in my case in the settings > location and in there are the gps options.

As @JosueG28 says allowing MacroDroid to use location permissions and having location services enabled on your device are two different things.

Please ensure you have location services enabled when using functionality that requires it. Most devices have a quick settings tile available by default in the notification area to allow toggling of location services on/off.
