Thanks but I have a VPN already set up within Android settings, I don't think I need a client to do what I'm already doing..

lol, I had forgotten these settings long time ago ...
(perhaps because they are of lower security)
unfortunately I don't know a way for this

Seems weird MD can do most of the networking stuff but completely misses a vpn switch (ON/OFF).
Maybe it just can't do it..

no app can mess with settings and internal android operations unless

- there is an Android API for this (and I think there isn't, not sure though,
the https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/connectivity/vpn is an API to make your own vpn service, there is also a device policy app which completely manages your device and is intended for company devices)

- there are public intents available (and again seems there aren't)

so, I don't know how could be possible except by UI interaction

I see, well I'm not going through UI Interaction anymore - at least not on this phone - so I'll just do as I always did.. manually

I'm not aware there is any generic catch all solution to turn a VPN on/off from another app. If anyone knows different then please let me know.

The plugin or intent might help you if you don't mind to use openVPN alternatively, the OP said it didn't work though
