Will a rooted phone let me turn on speakerphone?

Like some of you, I'm annoyed with Google and their heavy-handed intrusion into my phone and my freedom to choose how I access features.

If I root my phone (Samsung S9/Android 10), will I be able to use Macrodroid to turn on my speakerphone?

As an aside, in my opinion Macrodroid is a compelling reason to buy an Android based phone. If Google was smart, they'd make Macrodroid a central feature in their advertising.

OK, rant over - I feel better - how about rooting my phone to gain functionality?

Thanks for the reply @Endercraft.

Yes, the "Speakerphone On" action was the first thing I tried. Nope, didn't work on my stock Samsung S9/Android 10.

Then I tried the "Notification Interaction/Any Content click action number 2" I found in a Macrodroid template. Didn't work either.

I tried the "Read Screen Contents" trying to discover an ID or name I could click when the Phone app was active but I couldn't get that to work either.

I scoured the web only to discover I'm not the only one with this question and no one seems to have a solution. Apparently, one of the recent Android updates took the speakerphone control options away. I was hoping someone knew of a way to circumvent the unnecessary restriction.

Thanks @Dimlos. I just tried it and was unable to make it work on my Samsung S9/Android 10 using the stock phone app. I appreciate your reply.

For people with disabilities, having the speakerphone come on automatically when a call is in progress might be a life saver. At least more convenient.

In my case, I use my crazy macros to learn and since I always use the speakerphone, I thought it would be an easy and obvious thing to do. But nope, google knows best. How dare I want to automatically turn on my speakerphone when in a call?

OK, my apologies for continuing to rant. I appreciate the support and answers I've received.

I wasn't sure because it said most Android 10+ devices.

It would be possible but you'd have to do some funny stuff like hijacking the phone app.
Yeah it's really not worth it.

What you can do though is complain to Google!
@Endercraft - I will look into how to complain to google. I signed a petition a while back about getting google to back off. I don't remember the site though.

I'd like to see a link, button or a thread with instructions about how to complain to google on this site. Visitors here are likely annoyed with the google heavy-handed control and intrusion. Not that I think google will notice my flea-bite-sized complaint.

I find it odd that google makes it harder to use their product instead of making Macrodroid a feature. Oh well, what do I know.

Thanks again for the response.

They say they want to "protect use privacy" but they just want small app developers to have less control so that big apps can have more (notice that big social media apps for example have no trouble obtaining special permissions like access to all files).

That's the thing. You'd have to sue them for them to actually care a bit. Even when thousands of developers complain because features like enabling wifi is gone they just don't care.

It's not a problem because it's working as intended.... Many developers have given up filing bugs against Android because they don't care about them and even when they acknowledge an issue they will sit on it for years and then mark it as obsolete.

Each feature they decide to lockdown they just say the word "privacy" or "malware" and that it for the user's protection, ignoring the fact that there is a complete permissions model in Android that could allow genuine apps to access these features with the users permission. When this gets mentioned they site "Permissions fatigue" and they don't want to add more permissions for this reason.

@40bpm I am aware that many users are using UI Interaction to hit the speakerphone button in the phone app to auto enable it, but you may need to experiment with timings (e.g. add a wait before next action before trying to click the button to allow time for the UI to appear). Alternative you may be able to use the notification interaction as some phone apps provide a notification button to enable this.

Thanks @MacroDroidDev - I'll look into your suggestions and if I have any success I'll report back.

I read the issuetracker site and didn't even laugh when they said it was working as intended so no fix is needed. I wasn't amused when they said that turning on a speakerphone could compromise basic phone functionality. I know I look stupid, and in fact I might be stupid, but they're rationale is just not believable. It comes across as profoundly unjust and unjustifiable.

Google loses all credibility when they claim that allowing me to turn on my speakerphone is a security or malware risk. If they provide proof there's widespread abuse of speakerphone control, then maybe I'd believe them. Even one instance of speakerphone abuse would be monumental.

Recently in a fit of displeasure with google, I turned off everything google on my phone. When I rebooted, I was bombarded with noisy notifications telling me how awful my life will be without those functions. I disabled every notification I could. My phone still works as a dumbphone. How much are Flip phones these days?

As an old COBOL programmer, I do this kind of thing for entertainment, but there are real people with real disabilities that actually need this function. I thought I was done with my rant but apparently not. I appreciate the replies, and a safe place to complain.
