It is possible to use Android as your PC's main OS (either as your only OS or as a dual boot) however, it is also possible to boot Android x86 into VMWare and Virtual box.
Android x86 is easy to root via developer options. Settings\About\Tap build number 7 times then Settings\Developer options and enable ADB and root.
