Trouble with SSID in range trigger not firing

I have a ssid in range trigger (action = turn on hotspot) but it's not firing at all anymore. When I first built it it didn't work, and then it randomly starting working, albeit not every time. Not it does not fire at all.
I wasn't sure if my phone is just not scanning for networks so I even went into developer options and turned of the wifi scan throttle (which i wasnt thilled about doing). But that didn't work.
I'm confused on how it even worked at some point and stopped.
To throw in a few side notes that might be relevant, I'm using wifi-direct on my tablet to produce the ssid that is in range, and it is not connected to internet (hence action That's turning on hotspot so I can get online). I dont know if that matters since it's worked before, and the tigger is technically "in range", not "quality", or "internet".
Does anyone have any ideas?

Make sure location services are enabled at all times and that MacroDroid and MacroDroid Helper have location permission in the background.
