Hi everybody,

my issue was possibly story before --
I was lured into buying the MacroDroid App because it allegedly was able to send an notification e-mail to a specified account.

Sorry Folks: I am a retired Grand-Pa and struggle with Android in every way you might imagine.
anybody out there possibly volunteering as a coach ??

any help appreciated
Gunter

I am watching your advised clip as I type.
To make long story short I recently (few weeks ago) upgraded to an Android Device (from a Siemens S10)
My daughter installed for me WhatsApp - which I had avoided for many years - and I expect only very few contact there.
Now what I need is:
The mobile-phone (which is set to silent mode by default, because I like it like this - so notifications go unnoticed)
to send me an e-mail to an ****@gmail.com account when new messages are received.
{preferably only on WhatsApp messages}
Because this is going to an END I will notice ....
However I fail miserably to create such a macro with MacroDroid ....
It's alway reporting something like wrong password ....
I double checked, it says: "Authentication failed - check your password"
Do I need to specify this for the sending account or the receiving account ??
but many thanks for your reply anyway ....
Any hint appreciated

You need to go to settings (in MacroDroid app), scroll down to Email settings, select Gmail account (if you want to send the email from a Gmail account) then select the account you want to send from.

Hi there I have done this ...
also I tested if sending an SMS to a different # would work. Which it does
However: Sending an e-mail to a specified account does not work
I am not sure it's the Trigger or the Action side which fails or something else
In settings: I activated the account to be used to send ...
In Action: I specified the account to receive ...
I've too tried to send myself an WhatsApp message ... - for new calls recieved - ... which works as well

Could not send email: javax.mail.AuthenticationFailedException 535-5.7.8 Username and Password not accepted
Email sending failed - authentication problem
Upload service destroyed

The funny thing is: I send an email from the same device to the same email address and it works ....

If you are using the username and password option for any Gmail account it will not work (Google doesn't want that for some reason).

@Endercraft

thanks a lot.
Ergo: I will try another email account, one that allows SMTP
but now I will need some more advice / help ....
basically it did work. But it is sending the message to the wrong email addressee
and configuring the outgoing SMTP server is not easy-going

It is sending the message to the wrong email addressee
I never heard about this and to be honest I don't use email automations so much. I just click my account and everything's good...

Are you sure the email action is configured to send to the right address ?

thanks a lot again. I figured it out after all (it send an email if a phone call is received ...
... which is perfectly OK for me, I hardly receive any)
now remains the question: Is MacroDroid able to do the same for WhatApp notifications⁉️💡
if not my Quest is coming to a sudden death - again.
thanks a lot anyway

It is possible, MacroDroid is a wonderful app ! You can use the 'notification received' Trigger in device events category, then select WhatsApp as app and select 'any' which should be enough.

Hi Folks and a big thanks a lot to all
I got this working in terms of:
The MacroDroid app will send an email to an specified email account when certain events occur on the mobile phone....
These are received on a secondary computer

and on the latter end I still need to figure out how to trigger an action upon receipt of the email message.
This does not belong here any more ....
But many thanks

Hi everybody again
I got everything working. The "secondary computer" is receiving a new message for missed calls and WhatsApp notifications
The last (I hope my final) question is ....

is there a way to put the caller's ID (tel. #) somewhere in this message ??

Plus maybe usefull hint for others:
I am using Thunderbird on a Pi as "secondary computer"
For which exists an IFTTT module opening a vast amount of triggers and actions ... (still working on testing this)

many thanks again

If you click the three dots button … in actions like send email, you'll get an option for caller number. To getget the same result for WhatsApp, use [not_title]

Sorry but I am not getting to this:
I have the 2x macro stored ....

I reopen it: 3x big fields (red, blue, green)

I choose blue, pertaining to "actions"
I get: a list of commands <==> the "three dots button" is inactive !!!
Send Email Configure, Test Action, Add Action above, Add constraint, Add comment, Cut, Copy, Extract to Action block, Delete, Disable, Help

and I can't find any option for caller number anywhere.
(actually it is 2x macros, 1x trigger phone call, 1x trigger whatsapp)

they essentially work fine: I get a message sent to the email address specified.
Just missing the (cream on the cake) caller ID in the message.

best regards
Gunter

in "configure smtp server"
the "three dots button" is available and offers 2x options, being:
a) 1x 3 dots horizontal
b) 1x 3 dots vertical

b) offers 2x Options, being:
b.1) attach MacroDroid System Log
b.2) attach MacroDroid User Log

a) the list is quiet comprehensive
I got "Call Number" activated ....
however the received email message does not show anything

Hi, is the "select the account you want to send from" have to be the same account you used to purchase Macrodroid Pro from playstore?
