Some actions are not working when MD is not in the foreground

I noticed that some actions like launch trigger, and WhatsApp direct chat intent (initially it used to work but after some time it stopped) don't work when MD is not in the foreground i.e it's working when MD is in the foreground

MIUI 14 has gotten rid of this option unfortunately

One thing to check is all the special permissions that Xiaomi devices have (listed under other pemissions or similar). There is one particular setting to allow the app to show on the lock screen and in my experience this can prevent things running when your device is locked in some cases.

I had an issue where certain actions, such as clearing notifications, displaying dialog etc were not working as expected. After some investigation, I discovered that the "permanent notification" setting was disabled (not to be confused with the "persistent notification" setting). I enabled it, and the previously non-functional actions started working again. However, I am a bit confused because when I turned off the notification again to test, the issue did not reoccur.
